Works in Jan’s Market Makers series reflect on the role that branding, marketing, and social media have played in our lives, and works in his Totems series present icons, objects, and scenes to serve as metaphors for reflection on current events and themes relevant to contemporary living.

Love is an appropriation of a mid-twentieth-century advertisement for a 1961 Chrysler Corporation Plymouth automobile, and represents the spirit of mainstream American consumer culture at mid-century – open, ambitious, and riding high on a burgeoning economy, well-positioned after two World-Wars that devastated Europe.
